Gordon Stevenson’s first solo album, Open, took over five years to record and edit. Book-ended by the sound of ocean waves crashing, the songs on Open comprise something of a travelogue, an ode to the American West—and also East. Its songs run the gamut from classic rock and roll to moody dirges and ambient homespun folk. It perhaps bites off more than it can fully chew, but what it does chew is mighty tasty. --The EDITORS
