OVERVIEW

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is a leading charity dedicated to heart health, research, and awareness. To engage a wider audience and create a more immersive experience around heart health, BHF sought to combine art, technology, and personal health data into a unique digital experience.

To raise awareness about heart health and BHF’s mission, the client wanted to create an interactive experience that would emotionally connect participants to the cause. The challenge was to bring heart health to life in an impactful, visual, and engaging way, encouraging more people to interact with the cause while understanding the importance of cardiovascular health.

Idea

We created the Heart Beat Generated Art experience, where participants could generate one-of-a-kind artwork based on their heartbeats. Using wearable technology to capture heart rate data, this project transformed those personal metrics using AI into dynamic generative art that evolved in real time, creating a visual representation of each individual’s unique heartbeat. The result was a deeply personal and visually stunning output.

Execution:

  1. Wearable Technology Integration: Participants wore heart-rate monitors, which collected real-time data.
  2. Generative Artwork: Using a bespoke algorithm, the heart rate data was instantly transformed into artwork that was projected onto large digital displays.
  3. Touring Experience: The experience toured across multiple locations, allowing people from different regions to participate. Participants were able to receive a copy of their artwork, both digitally and in print, as a keepsake.
  4. Digital Engagement: The campaign was amplified across social media, enabling users to share their personalized heartbeat artwork, raising awareness of BHF’s mission and engaging a broader audience.

Impact

The Heart Beat Generated Art campaign had a profound emotional impact, helping participants feel a deeper personal connection to the cause. The touring event became a conversation starter about heart health, while the unique artwork served as both a personal memento and a piece of advocacy for the BHF.

  • Increased Awareness: The interactive nature of the experience led to significant media coverage and social sharing, extending BHF's reach.
  • Personal Engagement: Participants connected emotionally with BHF's mission, resulting in greater personal investment in their heart health.
  • Data-Driven Art: This project creatively bridged the gap between art and science, using personal health data to raise awareness in an innovative way.
